The Saryan Steps
The Saryan Steps initiative brings together culture, art, and contemporary urban development to foster vibrant environment in Armenia.
The project is implemented through the joint efforts of the Keron Development Foundation, the Kentron Administrative District, and Mane Tiles.
At its core, the project focuses on the beautification and transformation of public spaces in Armenia. It includes landscaping, installation of lighting, pavement widening, and the placement of a contemporary art installation in the small park located at the top of the stairs.
In the first phase of the project, the rich color palette and spirit of Martiros Saryan have been brought to life in the center of Yerevan through a reproduction of his famous “Armenia” painting, presented as a mosaic made of 1,620 entirely handmade ceramic tiles.
Goals:
- Transform the Saryan Steps and the surrounding area into a modern, inspiring space
- Present Armenian cultural heritage through innovative solutions
- Create a green and well-maintained environment to offer a pleasant urban experience for both locals and tourists
One of the Keron Development Foundation’s strategic priorities is territorial development. The “Saryan Steps” initiative is part of this vision—aiming to improve and renovate public spaces and contribute to a higher quality of life in Armenia. Our goal is to shape environments that enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, encourage community engagement, and position Armenia as a country evolving in cultural and architectural terms.
