Keron Development Foundation has launched the distinctive renovation project of the Yerevan State Medical University library
Yerevan, Armenia – September 25, 2024 – The Keron Development Foundation has initiated the renovation of the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) library as a landmark project aimed at advancing education and enhancing academic potential in Armenia.
The new library, designed to meet international standards, aspires to become a vibrant and modern center for knowledge, research, and collaboration. By offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and a welcoming environment, the library will engage both students and the academic community, fostering not only academic learning but also a deeper interest in research. This project will further strengthen YSMU’s position as a key contributor to the advancement of education.
Since June of this year, the foundation has actively collaborated with the university, organizing special meetings and discussions with students and faculty members. A survey was also conducted among them, and the feedback, desires, and needs expressed have been considered in shaping the concept for the library’s transformation and in the development of its technical features and key components.
In August, numerous companies from Armenia and abroad participated in the architectural competition, presenting proposals that aligned with the specified technical requirements. The winning bid came from the Dutch architectural company Defesche van den Putte (DVDP), renowned for its innovative and diverse projects in urban planning, education, and culture. DVDP’s portfolio includes the renovation of the libraries at Rotterdam Erasmus University, Maastricht University, The Hague Royal Library, as well as projects at the Twente University, the TechMed Center and Emma Children’s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Today, an official meeting was held between representatives of the Keron Development Foundation, Yerevan State Medical University, and the architectural firm DVDP. During the meeting, a cooperation agreement was signed, followed by a tour of the future library space. The participants discussed the detailed plans for the renovation and outlined the next phases of the collaboration.
The new library will feature functional and comfortable spaces, relaxation areas, modern book storage systems, and digital technologies, providing more efficient access to databases and resources.
“We are pleased to initiate this important project for the renovation of Yerevan State Medical University’s library, which we believe will become a unique initiative in Armenia and contribute to the development of the university’s educational potential. Our goal is to create an environment that will serve as a dynamic hub for knowledge and collaboration, where education and research are driven by advanced technologies and comfortable infrastructure, fostering the growth of future professionals and enhancing the university’s reputation,” said Vanane Ararktsyan, Executive Director of the Keron Development Foundation.
“This is an important day for us. In line with the university’s mission, we are implementing several programs. In particular, we will discuss the creation of the library in collaboration with the Keron Foundation, as per our memorandum of cooperation,” said YSMU Rector Armen Muradyan, emphasizing that having reliable international partners is crucial for the university.
