The “Saryan Stairs” Project
14 October, 2024
The spirit and vibrant palette of Saryan will now be present in the heart of Yerevan. The Kentron Administrative District, the Keron Development Foundation, and Mane Tiles have jointly initiated the renovation of the main stairs on Martiros Saryan street and the surrounding area.
As part of the “Saryan Stairs” project, a mosaic representing the great painter’s “Armenia” painting, made from 1,620 entirely handmade tiles, will be installed.
Today, the project’s initiators placed symbolic tiles on the stairs, officially marking the start of the project.
Petros Petoyan, Head of the Kentron Administrative District, said, “This project will make our cultural heritage more visible and breathe new life into Yerevan by combining art and modern approaches. I hope this area will become one of the most beloved corners of our city, especially for the youth, creating an inspiring and creative environment.”
The project also includes plans for a contemporary art installation and enhanced landscaping of the surrounding area, transforming this part of the city into one of Yerevan’s most captivating and visually distinctive destinations.
“Alongside the main focus of the Keron Development Foundation, we support initiatives that make life in Armenia more appealing and dynamic. With this project, our aim is to create a space that not only brings artistic value by reimagining cultural heritage but also evolves into a contemporary hub that I’m confident will be embraced by Yerevan’s residents,” added Vanane Araktsyan, Executive Director of the Keron Development Foundation.
The project has already begun and will take its final shape in a few months. Mane Tiles has previously implemented several projects in Yerevan since the launch of the “Smile Yerevan” program, aimed at beautifying the city and making it more enjoyable for both locals and tourists. “Today’s tourists are very knowledgeable and well-educated, so it’s challenging to impress them with innovation. Instead, we try to recreate our cultural values and present them to the public in a new format. Each handmade tile carries a lot of the sun’s energy, just as the great master Martiros Saryan depicted. We are hopeful that this unique corner will be loved by many, and the format will inspire many of us. Therefore, we must all arm ourselves with the greatest determination to do something good for our city. We say this not only as representatives of Mane Tiles but also as Yerevan residents, citizens, and Armenians.”
