The YSMU library renovation is making steady progress

In line with the libraries of the world’s leading universities, Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) will soon feature a library complex that meets international standards, thanks to the support of the Keron Development Foundation.

Active processes are underway to bring this large-scale initiative to fruition.

The foundation’s team, led by Executive Director Vane Araktsyan, along with chief architects Yef van den Putte and Peter Defesche from Defesche van den Putte (DVDP), accompanied by Vice-Rector for Postgraduate and Continuing Education Garnik Avetisyan, Career Center Director Khachatur Margaryan, and other key stakeholders, toured the university to familiarize themselves with the areas designated for renovation prior to the commencement of construction work. Their goal was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the renovation sites and discuss various work points.

The visiting architects collaborated with their Armenian colleagues, including three students from the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, to closely examine the building’s structure, entry and exit points, and address technical issues during their second visit to the medical university.

The foundation has considered every detail in this major project to create a high-quality educational environment and student space, focusing on aspects such as natural lighting, safety concerns, student flow, and overall comfort.

Following the tour, a meeting was held with YSMU Rector Armen Muradyan, during which architect Peter Defesche presented the finalized version of the future library concept to the university representatives. After discussing with the experienced architect, Armen Muradyan provided specific observations and suggestions, which were positively received during an interactive discussion, allowing for further refinement and enhancement of the construction project.

Upcoming working meetings and consultations with the Keron Foundation, grounded in international experience, will gradually turn this vital initiative to establish a modernized library into a reality.
