Yerevan Welcomed Another New Free Public Playground Ahead of the New Year

On December 14, in Khachkar Park near Republic Square, took place the official opening ceremony of Yerevan’s new public playground- “Vishapagorg: Memory of the Tree of Life”.

Back in May, the Keron Development Foundation and the Kentron Administrative District of Yerevan announced the launch of a program to create three new public playgrounds in the capital by signing a memorandum of cooperation. The first playground of the program, “Karmrakhayt: Secrets of the Hidden River,” was officially opened on September 21, Armenia’s Independence Day.

“Vishapagorg” is the second playground within the program. Spanning 800 square meters, this modern, free, and inclusive play space was built in accordance with international standards and is designed for children aged 0–7. The playground is conceptually inspired by traditional Armenian carpet weaving, with its patterns and symbols transforming the space into a unique blend of imagination, play, and cultural memory.

The playground was brought to life through the collaboration of the Kentron Administrative District, the Keron Development Foundation, and the project’s partner, Armbrok Investment Company, marking another important step toward improving the urban environment and advancing territorial development.

During the opening ceremony, Petros Petoyan, Head of the Kentron Administrative District, delivered welcoming remarks, stating:
“Today is a very joyful day for Yerevan. We place great importance on the creation of playgrounds like this, which offer high-quality solutions and, most importantly, are designed for children of different ages and abilities. I would like to thank our partner, the Keron Foundation, for this project as well as for other ongoing initiatives. I am also pleased that the Armbrok company has joined us within the framework of this project.”

In her speech, Vanane Araktsyan, Executive Director of the Keron Development Foundation, emphasized:
“Congratulations to all of us. Today we have our second public, free, inclusive, and modern playground. The fact that the first playground, “Karmrakhayt” opened just a few months ago and has already become so loved by children proves that we have chosen the right path. I would like to thank the Yerevan Municipality, represented by the Kentron Administrative District, for returning a former parking area back to the park, allowing us to create a new playground for children here. Special thanks also go to “Armbrok” Investment Company for joining and supporting this initiative. I am confident that such initiatives will have a chain reaction and inspire others. I also thank our designers, architects, and builders, who worked tirelessly to ensure that children could enjoy this playground ahead of the New Year. All that remains is for us to care for this space with love, so it can serve our little ones for many years to come.”

Aram Kayfajyan, CEO of Armbrok Investment Company, added:
“Thank you for being here today. When we wrote down our wishes and placed them at the foundation of this playground a month ago, my wish was that all playgrounds in Armenia would be renovated and beautiful. I hope that wish comes true. I join my colleagues’ remarks and am confident that this playground will bring happiness and joy to all children. I also believe this will set a chain example, encouraging private companies to join similar initiatives.”

The festive day was filled with a warm and joyful atmosphere. Children enjoyed hot treats, creative workshops, a meeting with the Armenian Santa Claus, and festive gifts. The opening of the playground became a true New Year’s gift for youngest residents.
