YSMU Recognized as the Fastest-Growing Medical University in the Post-Soviet Region
Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi (YSMU), a long-term and trusted partner of the Keron Development Foundation, has received another significant international recognition. According to data published by the Boston Institute for Global Rankings, YSMU has been named the fastest-growing medical university in the post-Soviet region.
This recognition is based on a large-scale and meticulous study analyzing the number of scientific articles published in journals indexed in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed) between 1991 and 2024. The study examined a total of 249 institutions across the post-Soviet region, including both independent medical universities and universities with medical faculties.
In the two-stage research, only 41 universities advanced to the second phase, having published at least 500 scientific papers. The second phase measured the scientific growth of these universities using a specially developed Exponentially Weighted Growth Index (EWGI), which simultaneously reflects both historical achievements and recent developments.
According to the authors, this methodology allows for a more accurate identification of universities that have demonstrated real and sustainable progress. Leading this group is Yerevan State Medical University.
Following YSMU in the rankings are the University of Latvia, Samara State Medical University, Saint Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University, and Vilnius University.
The full study and its findings have been published on the esteemed Oncodaily platform.
This achievement and steady growth reflect not only YSMU’s academic and scientific potential but also the university’s consistent development and open, collaborative approach. The Keron Development Foundation is proud to partner with such a prestigious institution, joining forces to improve Armenia’s educational environment, create new opportunities for students, and implement long-term joint initiatives.
