A major achievement for Armenian tennis: Armenia will be represented by another strong athlete in international women’s tennis

The Keron Development Foundation continues its initiatives aimed at advancing sports, bringing international experience, talent, and new opportunities to Armenia’s athletic potential. Within this framework, and following lengthy negotiations, professional tennis player Alina Charaeva is joining the Foundation’s Talent Pool Program.

With the support of the Keron Foundation and the Armenian Tennis Federation, Alina has already received citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and will soon compete under the Armenian flag in international tournaments.

24-year-old Alina Charaeva is one of the promising athletes in professional tennis. Born in Samara, Russia, she started playing tennis at the age of five and has built a strong international competitive path over the years. Alina has reached her career-best ranking in the WTA rankings and currently holds the No. 118 position. During her junior career, she reached No. 12 in the ITF Junior Rankings. She has also competed in the qualifying rounds of Grand Slam tournaments, continuing to strengthen her position in international women’s tennis.

Alina Charaeva’s joining the Talent Pool Program is an important step in expanding Armenia’s presence in sports. For the Keron Development Foundation, this is another example of how international talent can become part of Armenia’s development, visibility, and athletic future.

The Talent Pool Program is one of the Foundation’s flagship initiatives, aimed at attracting high-level professionals and talents to Armenia in the fields of culture, sports, education, healthcare, and territorial development. The program presents Armenia as an environment where international experience and individual potential can create long-term value. Currently, the program brings together 10 professionals, two athletes, and one sports duo.

Alina Charaeva’s involvement is another important milestone in the continued development of the Keron Development Foundation’s sports direction. Two years ago, with the support of the Foundation, professional tennis player Elina Avanesyan also received citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and, in March 2025, opened a new chapter in the history of Armenian sports by becoming the first Armenian female athlete to enter the WTA Top 40. This year, representing Armenia’s women’s national team, Elina also achieved success in the Billie Jean King Cup, helping the team advance to Group II.

«I have deep love and endless gratitude for my home and where I come from, it has shaped me into the athlete l am today. At the same time, I am incredibly excited to announce a new beginning in my career: I am officially representing Armenia. This transition represents an opportunity to grow as tennis player but most importantly as a person. I am truly honored to step onto the court under the Armenian flag and cannot wait to see what this new journey brings», – states Alina Charaeva.

With Alina Charaeva joining, Armenia gains another strong and promising athlete in international tennis, further strengthening our country’s visibility and competitiveness on the global sports stage.
